Hi all,
I'm just thinking ahead and have an idea for the next speed modelling challenge - maybe the one against the professionals (if i can rope any in)...
I had a bunch of robots designed for a personal project I was working on about a boy and his robot - Robert n' Robot. I thought it might be cool to have a crack at sketching up and building a robot. If you don't have time to design one, I've included some ideas here to get you started, or you can design your own if you want to...

If you like the idea, drop me a line, and we can have a chat about the duration of the task.

If you want it to be a bit loinger than the 1 hour projects we've been doing, maybe up to 4 hours or something? that might be cool - or if you decide to spend longer on it, we can move it into the competitions thread and I'll get a prize together for it...

I guess we'll be looking at in game quality again - upto 5000 polys and keep it cutesy - what do you think?

The reason for mentioning this before Sunday, it to give us time to think about the designs and vote on whether to do it or not - I guess if the group decide not to do it, anyone else still can, as there are no rules here

Anyway, let me know, or suggest something more interesting...

Well, I voted yes, but I'm not sure if I'll have the time to enter myself. I think it's a very good idea though. The time for something like that should definately be extended from the one hour if it includes modelling and texturing. Would we be working from our own concepts, or from someone else's? My drawing isn't too good yet. I think if it ws a four hour challenge, then this would be a competition worthy of a prize.

Nice looking robots by the way. What was the project? Animated short?

I think it would be good to do a mixture of lenghts for the speed challenges or at least a longer on less frequently on the side. It helps you develop your skill set more. So you can quickly model something and then quickly finish it

The occasional slightly longer one would be good, there is only so much you can do in an hour, which in most cases is only the mesh, with a little mre time mapping becomes an option. And you dont have to use the full hour if you dont want / need to.

I would love to try this challenge and if you want it to be textured also then the 4 hours would have to be a go, I voted yes

awesome - glad you like the idea.

I have higher res versions of the robots if anyone wants then - just ask.

you can always spend just the hour on it too, or whatever, so go wild.

Now, who's gonna do some of their own designs - Nath.. I'd expect one from you  (lol, now you're on the spot...)

The project is a childrens book - I'm a little too busy to get into it at the moment - maybe this will kickstart my intrest again.

Then maybe an animated short, then a cartoon series, then an animated movie, then an all star cast Hollywood epic, then world domination... you know, that sort of thing

Nah, seriously though, a few kids books would be cool, and I'd love to work on a short animation.

So, what are your dreams people? Anything you'd like to share?

With a little help along the way, a lot of dreams come true
