Hello all,
OK, I thought I'd better post this one up early as I've invited a few new people to come and have a play with us - just so that they know where to find it (I've just been asked where it is...).

For any newcomers, the rules are simple - you have up to 4 (four) hours to build a model of a cutesy robot. You can texture map it if you like, but you don't have to.

You can use these concepts if you like, or you can use your own - if you sketch your own, this is not part of the 4 hours.

If you sketch your own, the sketch time is not included in the 4 hours.

You can make it as complex as you like, but a guide of 5,000 to 10,000 might be useful.

The competition ends next Sunday 5th April and you can submit as many entries as you like.

There will be a friendly Amateurs vs Professionals competition on this one - but remember it's just friendly so stick to the 4 hours.
Do your best and feel free to continue working on your models in the WIP section of the site if you wanna show of to the pro's.

Good luck all

As you might have guessed, I really wanted to get started on this one... so I have...
Here's my submission - it just under 4 hours (I have no idea where that time went at all)

It has no mapping or unwrapping, just 2 materials - the main one is the grey metal phong material, and he has a neck support which is black that you can't see.
The colour comes from 5 lights - 3 target spot (a yellow from the right, a blue from low left and a very dim white from behind) also I popped a red omni at each palm just to get a bit of red glow of his hands.

I don't like the eyes and I went a bit poly mad on the arms and legs

he looks cool. I would have put wheels on him. I m still unsure if I will do my own concept or one in the pic at the start of the post. Speed concept and model ? Sounds fun. It'll be good to see what comes out of a 4 hour challenge.

OK here's my entry, Teddybot.

I spent about 2 and a half hours modelling and about an hour and a half playing with shaders and lights. I could have spent all day tweaking with the lights, there's still a couple of dodgy shadows.

I've used 3 coloured lights and 2 shaders. I played around with coloured shaders but I couldn't find anything I liked so I kept them grey.

Feedback is welcome.

The teddybot is looking good Archael but without eyes or something of a face it looks weird to me. Maybe some sort of LCD face within the inner circle ?

Took me about three hours. Just a fun robot.
With a highly sophisticated feetsystem. :-)
