 Post subject: Chapter 5 - Mirror?

Hiya, I'm on chapter 5 of modelling for games second edition and I'm having some difficultly with the cab section of the truck (page 221-222).

I have unwrapped the cab, where you was previously told to delete half to speed up the process. Then it comes to mirroring it once the uvw unwrapping is done to create the other side.
This just completely messes up what I have already done and then I have two separate cab parts.

I've read back through the chapter several times, but I don't know what I'm missing. How do I get it so that I have one complete cab piece, without messing up my uvs, ready for stitching both parts together?

Also, the text says to refer to fig 6.153. I assumed this was a typo meaning 5.153, but this shows the trailer section, not the cab like the text suggests.

A picture would be nice, Might actually be able to see what is wrong. My suspicion is that you havent got the mirror set up right, or the other is something is selected that shouldnt be in the mirror options

This is the only mirror settings I get. Also tried mirror through modifier, in which case just mirror on the X and tick copy.
Problem is getting both parts together without messing up what I've already created.

I think its because theres a seam, or what appears to be a seam down the middle (where you have 2 sets of the same colour on the checker grid matching up) This is something you can fix in the unwrap by fiddling with the UV's in the Unwrap and getting them lined up perfectly, But i could not really tell what was going wrong from the photo

The issue is this.

The book says to delete half of the model, unwrap this half, then mirror it back together. The objective of this, to my knowledge, will then give you one complete model, with two UV halfs (in the same edit window) that you then stitch back together, saving you time.

What happens however is that when I mirror, I am left with two separate model parts (as shown in the photo along with the mirror settings), and am therefore unable to access the uvs together. When I attempt to attach the two model parts together, this essentially undo's my previous uv work, resetting the uvs to before I did anything.

Such a simple fix, You need to Combine the meshes in the mirror/Symmetry Settings. I thought you where having problems with the actual mesh. Also the mirror is more about saving you time on the unwrap and modelling. I cant remember max that well so i will leave it to someone who uses it more often than me

maybe just attach them and collapse the stack?
